Profile

Dr Gijs van Steenbergen is a cardiologist-in-training and post-doctoral researcher at the Catharina Heart Center and Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2023, he obtained his PhD for his thesis “From outcome monitoring towards patient value improvement in cardiac care”, which laid the foundation for a pragmatic framework to monitor and improve value-based care and digital health innovation in daily practice.

His clinical and scientific work centres around the development and implementation of digital care strategies, including patient education, video consultations, and remote monitoring. He led the IMPROV-ED trial and the subsequent implementation, which was awarded with the 2025 NHR Quality Award. He is also a clinical lead in HealthDOT, a remote monitoring program for early discharge. These initiatives are embedded in his broader focus on value-based healthcare and the use of outcome- and cost-driven data to improve daily care.
