This course

In this course the use of real-world data for quality improvement in the Catharina Hospital and its catchment area is shared. Lessons learned on how to use data from daily practice to optimize patient value, defined as outcomes that matter most to patients divided by costs of healthcare delivery. In recent years, the multidisciplinary quality committee has succeeded in improving outcomes that matter most to patients while optimizing efficiency of healthcare delivery and reducing healthcare resources spend. Examples of improvement projects in intervention cardiology, electrophysiology and cardiac surgery are presented, including improvement of survival, reduction of complication and re-intervention, a decrease of days in the ward and a transition from clinical admission to same day discharge. Methods for monitoring outcomes and costs, identifying room for improvement, organizing PDSA-cycles and evaluating the impact of improvement projects are included in this course. Also, the introduction of the use of more advanced analysis methods is presented.
